Greetings
in the new semester! The staff
at ILC, International Language Centers, would like to welcome all the new
students to the school, and welcome back our existing students. We hope that
the new semester will prove fun and fruitful for all! Most
of you know that the school has existed since 2002, and we currently have two
locations: one on Kobierzyńska Street, and the second on Karmelicka
Street. We mainly teach English using the Callan Method, but we also offer
many other programs and languages. We
teach Polish to foreigners, and we teach English at big companies such as
Pliva, Cemex or Dom Kultury in Skała. Besides English, we offer other
languages such as: Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Arabic, Hebrew,
Swahili, and many others. |
For those who have not yet joined our school, we
can guarantee that our lessons are something you will not forget. We have an
experienced and friendly staff, teachers committed not only to effective
teaching, but also to creating a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. ILC is different from other schools because of
the many different programs we offer, our professional, friendly and outgoing
staff, and the parties that we often organize for our students. These parties
give the students a chance to meet the teachers and administration staff
outside the school, to practise their English in a different setting, or to
teach the teachers some Polish! We
hope that you enjoy the time you spend with us, and that you learn many
useful things during your studies. We are all ready and happy to assist you
at any time. Remember: we are there for the students! Happy reading! |

ILC TEACHERSIdalia – Director of Studies. “I grew up in the
Republic of South Africa. I have been teaching English for 6 years, mostly in
Poland and in Spain. I have a dog named ‘Śnieżka’. I love travelling, dogs, books and
vegetarian sushi!” Róża – Assistant Director of Studies. “Birthplace:
Kraków; Current hair colour: black; Eye colour: brown; Tattoos: none;
Piercings: 10; Weight: Why do you want to know??; Best physical feature:
feet; Overused phrase: "What's this, What's this?"; Most
embarrassing moment: first Callan lesson; Weakness: wisniowka!; Bedtime:
Mon-Thurs: 11pm, Fri-Sun: 5am; Goal for the year: Master's degree in
Painting; Craziest thing ever done: playing with a crocodile; Greatest fears:
crocodiles; Interests: art; Shower daily? Yes!; Want kids? yes; Favourite
body feature on opposite sex: eyebrows!” Iza – Our chidrens’ teacher, but Iza also teaches
Callan when she can get away from the children! She is from Kenya, but has
been living in Cracow for a few years now. She has a husband and a son. She
likes Cactus juice and performing concerts! Lil’Jo – “I have pursued my career as an English
teacher for more than 3 years. However, as I have always been interested in
law, I have expanded my teaching experience to general legal English,
and more specifically the Polish Commercial and Labour Law. This year, I am
graduating from The Jagiellonian University, English Philology
Department with a bachelor's degree in methodology of teaching.” Joe - “I’m the one
with short hair and a nose ring, a typical Cracovian, born in the centre,
grew up in the centre, and still living in the centre. I did my BA in
Teaching English and my MA in American Studies, and all to get a scholarship
to study abroad … and I did. I was in Ireland for three years, the ‘drunkest’
country in the world! My life philosophy is to have a smile on my face, no
matter what happens. That’s why I’m sometimes a bit abnormal …” Kevin – “I'm originally from New York and have been living
and teaching English in Krakow for about 4 years. I enjoy fall weather;
strawberries and raspberries, hazelnut and chocolate raspberry coffee;
cooking spicy food; travelling to unstable countries with my car, Rosa. My
hobbies also include playing ping-pong, shooting pool, hiking and used to
include skiing and flying Piper Cub airplanes.” Magnus – “I am 24 years old, from England. I’ve been
living in Cracow for 1.5 years. Previously I lived in Gliwice. I like
football (I’m very good at watching it but very bad at playing it). My
favourite film is Rocky IV. My favourite beer is Tyskie (or John Smiths). I
have a pet rabbit. I enjoy reading books, watching films, playing darts, playing
ludicrously addictive football management-related computer games, and winning
pub quizzes. My favourite Polish phrase is: ‘Puchate łapki królika’.” Mark – “I
was born in Boston and have worked on Wall Street and in the investment field
for over 15 years. Over the past two
years, I have been asked many times why I moved from the USA to Poland. I could express this in many ways, but what
it comes down to is this, “Life in the States is easy; however, life in
Poland is beautiful. Which would you rather have, an easy life or a beautiful
life? I also wrote the number one website in the world for teaching the
Polish language www.Polshgrammar.com,
and write innovative language software, www.claritaslux.com where using your computer you can download
a language directly to your brain.” |
Sabrina – From Israel, she lived in Cracow
for a few years, studying at
Jagiellonian University. Unfortunately, she left for the States on 23rd
February, but we hope that she will return and come back to ILC!
Jey - Jey is from Hungary, and is also studying in Cracow. She is a
part-time teacher at the school, because of her studies. She can speak
Hungarian, Polish and English perfectly! She likes to party and have fun! Rachael - “I am originally from the United States, but I
immigrated to Australia in 2000. It is a very beautiful country. I enjoy
reading books, going to the cinema and hiking in the mountains. I am looking
forward to the warm weather so that I can explore more of Poland. I cannot
wait to see Gdańsk.” Lee – “I am 29 years old, from London. I have been living in Cracow for
13 months. Formally I am an automotive vehicle engineer and tester. My reason
for coming to Poland was having a Polish girlfriend, and wanting a change of
scenery.” James - “I come from St Louis, Missouri,
originally, which is about 4 hours southwest of Chicago. I'm 23 years
old and have been living in Krakow since February 2005. I really love this
city and would like to live here for some time. I've also lived in Berlin
and South Africa, which I really liked. I love languages, history and
travelling. I can speak French and German quite well and am learning more and
more Polish every day. Like to teach and am glad to be working at
IBES!” POEM:
e Simple
Satisfaction e
(by Rob) I gaze across the water of a mystic lagoon Ringed by three royal, grand and glorious sisters, Splendid in their self-imposed seclusion Looking from their perch, yet seeing naught but
whispers. As my slightly quivering hand Reached to my pocket’s last change, To buy a respite to hunger’s last stand, He approached me, warily, with hope in eyes
estranged. Famish gave way to courage, and hopefully a bit of
luck, Yet hesitant, as if expecting to be not satisfied,
but struck. With a quick goodbye, I sighed, threw my bread. A speedy snap, a swifter wag of the tail, Running away as I quickly smiled, and slowly shook
my head. Finally - in the strangest yet simplest of ways -
fulfilled at last. ?

ARTICLE:
Ö Jupiter: The Earth’s Protector Ö (by Lil’Jo) Most people think that the worst thing that can
happen to our planet is an environmental catastrophe or an earthquake. They
could not be more wrong. People are not aware of the fact that the Earth is
under attack every day. This is due to meteorites and comets that represent
the most significant threat that we have from space. They impact the Earth
routinely, but most of these objects are very small. What scientists are most
concerned about are these objects and asteroids in large forms. Any of these objects
could cause many catastrophes, or even the end of life on Earth. We have to realize that the galaxy is a really
violent place. Taking into consideration all these threatening aspects, the
question is, “why are we still here?” It is because of Jupiter and its
contribution to our Solar System. Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun
and by far the largest within our Solar System; some have described the Solar
System as consisting of the Sun, Jupiter and assorted debris. Jupiter and the
other gas giants, Uranus and Neptune, are sometimes referred to as “Jovian
Planets”. Jupiter is over a thousand times bigger than the
Earth and because of its enormous gravity; it draws anything that is close to
it. It has shielded our planet for millions of years. Jupiter sucks up comets
and other objects like a huge vacuum cleaner. It is thought that due to
Jupiter’s large mass and location near the inner Solar System, it receives
the most frequent comet impacts of the Solar System’s planets. Its best-known
feature is probably the Great Red Spot, a storm larger than Earth that has
lasted for centuries. ♫ PO POLSKU ♫
