The fastest means of transport is naturally
underground. The underground is divided into several zones
and the price of the ticket depends on the zone you travel
from and to. One average ticket costs c. 1.50 - 2 GBP. It
is advantageous to buy a weekly ticket (normal price 22.80
GBP, student's price 15.90 GBP) valid for all transport including
buses. The tickets are sold in newsstands, or newsagents.
The Finsbury Park language school is located at Finsbury Park
station (Victoria Line). Tickets valid only for buses cost
c. 5 GBP for a week, but ground transportation in London is
totally jammed every day and it could be hours before you
get to your destination. Bus tickets are also sold at the
entrances to the underground, in newsstands, or at major stops.
We do not recommend using taxis; you would
be bled dry. If you want to travel for free, take your own
bicycle and travel by bicycle. Many Londoners travel in this
way. Small scooters are also fashionable. Comprehensive information
about the underground and transport in London, including maps
and ticket prices, can be found at http://www.thetube.com.
As we have already mentioned, transport around London is a
great problem because it is really overcrowded, and practically
no means of transport (underground too) alleviates the crowds.
Moreover, introduction of entrance fees to the centre for
cars is being considered.
